DIGITAL MANTRA

When I was a kid, I was a part of a small gang. The gang included my twin brother and my older sister, nevertheless we were three. To me three = small gang. To enter into fantasy/imaginary worlds we would ask one another with a snarl, "what's the secret password?" Then giggle at the password we made up that was completely ridiculous.

These days passwords mean something much different. Now passwords are something that we type into a website to enter into an account... BORING.

As I got older I found myself typing in passwords with increased speeds, mindlessly! I used to use words I would remember like my cat's name, or last name or ballerina5678, etc. When I bought my first MacBook, I thought about changing that habit. I became aware of the fact that passwords are words or phrases that I use frequently, often multiple times a day. MANTRA. Passwords are now my digital mantras.

I googled mantra and this is what I found:

man·tra /mantrə/ noun

  1. (originally in Hinduism and Buddhism) a word or sound repeated to aid concentration in meditation.

    • a Vedic hymn.

    • a statement or slogan repeated frequently

Recognizing this fact made me a more mindful password chooser. I choose something to remind me that I am alive. I am life. I am a being. I am not a robot. I am not a number. I am HERE. (see previous blog post about being HERE.)  I wanted to make my digital mantra something worth repeating and typing multiple times a day.

I chose: LOVEURLIFE. Love your life because it is a choice. I am choosing to love what I am, what I do and what I have. It's a constant reminder that I can change what I dislike about my life, and change my route so I can continue in the direction of loving my life. On days when I'm blue it reminds me to love the life I have been given, because we are all here for just a blink of an eye, a minuscule moment in the timeline of time and existence on earth.

So, lets take photos. Lets make images so that families and loved ones will be able to hold them their hands and stare into, and reminisce on the memories that you've created together.

One of my favorite songs describes these feelings perfectly.

Lyrics to Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neural Milk Hotel:

What a beautiful face
I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
What a beautiful dream
That could flash on the screen
In a blink of an eye and be gone from me
Soft and sweet
Let me hold it close and keep it here with me

And one day we will die
And our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see
Love to be
In the arms of all I'm keeping here with me

What a curious life
We have found here tonight
There is music that sounds from the street
There are lights in the clouds
Anna's ghost all around
Hear her voice as it's rolling and ringing through me
Soft and sweet
How the notes all bend and reach above the trees

Oh how I remember you
How I would push my fingers through
Your mouth to make those muscles move
That made your voice so smooth and sweet
But now we keep where we don't know
All secrets sleep in winter clothes
With one you loved so long ago
Now he don't even know his name

What a beautiful face
I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
And when we meet on a cloud
I'll be laughing out loud
I'll be laughing with everyone I see
Can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all
